Sensible, logical, factual, moderate, informative, eloquent, intelligent - just what we'd expect from you, Jan. Sadly, also precisely the opposite of the policy and its supporters.

Clearly we live under the Chinese curse.

Great!. I am really into most of those thoughts myself!
I didn't realize you painted, were an educator, and were so involved with similar things as myself.
I will look forward to coming back here next month. Thanks Jan

Gosh, this sounds fascinating! Do you want a totally uncritical, promise-never-to-say-a-bad-word reviewer? I won't even criticize spelling!

(Ok, that was a false promise - but I can be oh-so-gentle!)

I have several perspectives on how women respond to men, partly due to my own screwed up personality. On the one hand, I fully agree with you - we seem to be in an age when women are taking a step backward. I think that is because we are discovering that society in general cannot afford to continue making every generation "better off" than the previous generation. There are really some "limits to growth." When this happens, the dominant group (men, socially prominent figures, countries) begin to find other ways of asserting their dominance - sports figures by becoming "bad boys", countries by invading others, men by pushing their dominance over women. If women were in a position to counter the social and economic stagnation we are seeing, this probably wouldnt matter. But the truth is, women are no better to defy the laws of economics than anyone else (hell, we already work twice as hard for half the pay!). So they become victims.

On the other hand, there are a large number of us who say, why should we carry the battle forward? Why not let men think they are really in charge? So we engage in very manipulative things, such as displaying skin, giving credit where credit is not due - in return, we get taken care of, perhaps subjugated a bit, maybe even abused a little.

And I gotta tell ya, a little abuse goes a long way in a romance novel!
